Exam time

It's that time of year again. Exam time is once again upon us. Tonight is the eve of my first of three exams this month, well I say that but they'll all be over a week Saturday! Weeks of Lectures, hours upon hours of revision, all leading to this two week period.

To be honest, I'm more than a little bit nervous. I don't know why but this time round nerves have actually started to set in before the hour or so prior to the exam. Maybe it's because these exams mean more than all the others that have come before, last year's exams had no impact on my degree classification, I could scrape a pass and still get into second year. However, this time a mark of 40 just won't do. I need to be hitting
60+ on each exam if I want to have any chance of getting a job as a solicitor when I graduate. Frustratingly, after all of the work I've done, I'm still worried that my mark could vary heavily depending on what questions I get in the exam, there are areas of my public law module, which is the exam I have tomorrow afternoon, that I am very comfortable with. But there are other areas where I am slightly less confident.

Another thing I have found difficult is revising for two information heavy exams, Public Law and European Law, so close to each other and then being given an entire week's gap to revise for the next one, Introduction to civil law, which not only seems to be less content heavy is worth only a third of what either of the other exams are worth. This has led me to have to balance revision for these first two exams and ignore the third completely so far, but that will of course have to change as soon as I have finished the second exam.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to power through with the promise of a Summer working in Berlin awaiting me at the end of it all, before moving on to Heidelberg where I'll be studying next year. Wish me luck!

Long time, no see

Well, it's certainly been a while since I've posted anything on here and I'm not really sure why, I just missed one post and then another and the whole thing kinda snowballed from there.

Aberystwyth Lacrosse Match
(I managed to get injured 5 minutes in...)
Anyway, now that I'm back I thought I'd give a run down of what I've been up to since my last post. I have continued with Lacrosse and am really enjoying it having recently been selected for the Welsh Universities team to compete at the British National Championships which is pretty exciting. We've also got our Varsity match coming up in the next few weeks which is going to be an interesting game I think.

My university studies have been going reasonably well, I've had some mixed marks and feedback ranging from 1sts in some of my German work to barely passing some of my Law assignments so it'll be interesting to see how that works out in the end I guess. I just have to make sure that I get plenty of revision done before my end of year exams to ensure that I do better than I did last year, which to be honest was fairly disappointing.
Heidelberg

I have also been accepted into Heidelberg University as part of my studies where I have to spend a year studying abroad, so I'll be off to Germany at the end of September which is very exciting, though I'm also a little nervous about it seeing as I'll all of a sudden have to start speaking German and nothing else for a whole year. But I guess that's the point of going and should be a fun challenge for me.

I guess that's all I have to say for now, I'll try and keep posting stuff on here for the foreseeable future and hopefully I can keep it going this time for a bit longer.

More Cancelled Lectures and Work

Well, it's the end of another week and I've had most of today off due to three of the four lectures I should have had today being cancelled. Thankfully, in some ways at least, I have had some work to do, just a bit of German homework but it's better than having nothing at all to do all day I guess.

Lacrosse was a bit less intense than I had expected last night, after last week especially. For some reason I'm not aching anywhere near as much as I was after last week though I was completely wiped out after training. I had some difficulty getting up this morning for my 9am lecture, which was annoyingly the only one not to get cancelled, I could have used the lie in to be honest. I rediscovered how uncomfortable gum-shields are last night too. I hate how they make you feel as if you are going to be sick every now and then, it's not a great feeling while running. I also haven't got used to talking with one in which could make for some very interesting calls during games.

I also discovered that I'm one of the quickest people in the team which is something, considering I'm one of the smallest too, so I guess I'll have to try and use that to my advantage and dodge more tackles than anything else. I wasn't too bad when competing on the ground though so I could probably hold my own against some people of a slightly larger build I reckon...

I'm really enjoying Lacrosse so far. It's been fun to learn a new sport completely from scratch and it wasn't so hard to pick up the basics, it'll be interesting to see how they translate into a game situation like the one we have on Wednesday. That should be interesting...

Now for a nice relaxing weekend of reading and German translation before my one year anniversary with my girlfriend on Monday and then her birthday on Wednesday. A busy couple of days at the beginning of next week so hopefully I can get some stuff done this weekend. Wish me luck!
